Kelly ArpKelly K. Arp - DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM

I am very excited to be working with your child this summer!  We will have many great experiences, and I look forward to working with you to help your child succeed.  Currently, I am a senior at Sam Houston State University studying Elementary Education.  I will be graduating in December of this year.  I have worked with children for more than 10 years.  In the past, I been a camp counselor and camp director for the YMCA for both the Downtown location as well as The Woodlands.  I am married and have three beautiful children ages 12, 5 and 15 months, two of whom attend Sacred Heart School.  In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, reading, working on fun projects, and of course spending time with my family.

Learning is, of course, the main purpose of education.  It is the goal of every student and the task of every teacher to increase knowledge and understanding in the classroom.  Independent thought is essential to the development of each student.  Being able to form unique independent ideas to solve problems will serve them both in and outside of the classroom.  Group interaction is also an important part of learning.  Being able to share ideas, validate them with those of others, and teamwork are important processes in social and mental development.  Finally, stressing the use of learned ideas and processes in new situations is essential.  By using prior knowledge, students should be able to apply what they have learned to new life or learning situations.

Becoming a teacher has been a personal journey.  It began with inspiration. I wanted to become a teacher from a very young age.  It has taken me a while to reach this point of my education but my dedication has never wavered.  I
have a love of learning and find joy in striving for excellence.  Because of inspirational teachers in my past, I want to be able to pass on that experience.  I want to teach children because it is the most rewarding profession out there.  It is challenging, never boring, and because it's important work.  I want to be able to touch and inspire our future.
