1st-3rd Team Hip Hop

The main goal of the competition team hip hop class is to focus on the style of hip hop dancing, learn hard-hitting movements, increase dance technique, and accomplish a team hip hop routine for competition.


Warm-up/Flexibility:
The dancer will spend time stretching and conditioning to increase flexibility and muscle strength. The dancer will engage in anaerobic and aerobic activity. Possible stretches will work towards accomplishing: right/left/center splits, center pull-throughs, bridges, and needles.


Center/Strength and Control:
Each class will consist of dance work to increase the dancer's core muscles, with a focus on strength and control. The dancer will work towards mastering skills on both the right and left sides. Center dance skills will include: pirouettes (single, doubles, triples, etc.), kicks in all directions, c-jumps, and standing leaps.


Across the Floor/Travel and Momentum:
Each dancer will participate in across the floor conditioning during each class. The dancer will work towards mastering skills going to both the right and the left sides. These skills will include: grand jetes, center leaps, switch and pump leaps, tilt jumps, and ring leaps. The dancer will also progress in turning across the floor to the right and the left. The turning combinations will include: chainnes, piques, axles, barrel turns, and attitude turns.


Over the course of the year:
The dancers will learn a full competition routine that includes dance technique, multiple formation changes, as well as fast paced choreography filled with big leaps and quick turns. In addition, the dancer will learn the importance of using facial expressions to enhance performance. The dancers will learn to be part of a team and how to be a good sport.

The main goal of the competition team jazz class is to focus on the style of jazz dancing, learn fancy footwork, arm movements, and dance technique, and accomplish a team jazz routine for competition.

The dancer will spend time stretching and conditioning to increase flexibility and muscle strength. The dancer will engage in anaerobic and aerobic activity. Possible stretches will work towards accomplishing: right/left/center Splits, center pull-throughs, bridges, and needles.


Center/ Strength and Control:
Each class will consist of dance work to increase the dancer's core muscles, with a focus on strength and control. The dancer will work towards mastering skills on both the right and left sides. Center dance skills will include: pirouettes (single, doubles, triples, etc.), kicks in all directions, c-jumps, and standing leaps.
